How will things shape up?
How will things shape up?
Here are a few of my thoughts in these difficult times where we must socially distance from one another. Yes, I know, more noise, though I hope you’ll read on. It is interesting how we are adapting in this unique and difficult situation. Most are accepting a life in lockdown though I know lots are struggling in ways I can barely comprehend.
We all have different challenges which aren’t equal. For those who have lost someone, especially if they were unable to say goodbye, this must be a terrible burden. My heart goes out to you.
There are some small things that I like from this situation, however. Before 2020 began, if I walked along the pavement and someone deliberately gave me a wide berth, I don’t know about you, but it would have played on my thoughts for a while. I’d carry this silly burden that someone had been rude, and I would be upset. If the same thing happened today, I’d greet the person who made the extra gap, with a smile and say hello for they are taking steps to keep me safe from the Covid-19 virus. Now, I am finding strangers are more welcoming in general and that helps.
All of this makes me wonder which social changes will be lasting. For me, I hope social awareness and respect for others stays. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll want to hug friends and do the things that we are all missing but kindness to strangers and respect for others space are things that I’d like to keep. There are those that we owe a great debt, more than a shiny badge worth.
I do know that there will be a battle of course. Afterwards there will be an inquisition. Whatever your political stance there will be outcries that things could have been done better. This is unavoidable and needs to happen as so many have suffered and died through this crisis. Unfortunately however, we seem to live in a world filled with misinformation and anger and the justified shouting is often lost within all the extraneous noise.
We don’t know if things will return to how they used to be. Possibly people may switch off or forget which would be a shame.
I will aim for a society where there is more unity and understanding. I hope others will do too. Stay safe and be kind.
